I liked her for being the sane parent most of the time--she recognized that Laurie was basically throwing her life away and that Eric was the good one. (...For a certain value thereof, in that family.) I still remember that episode where Eric flubbed revenge on Laurie badly and Kitty sat him down at the end and said, "Oh honey, you know I love you and your sister equally, but if you ever get an opportunity again, for Gods sake pull the trigger!"
Kitty was awesome.
