The fandom wouldn't care but I don't think the show would go for it, no matter how distant. For all that fandom allows people to have their fun, people still hope to see their pairing for real in the show. If they had a blood connection, no matter how distant, that will seem like the door has been firmly shut on a romantic relationship between the two on the TV screen.

I haven't any idea how the writers and/or producers might choose to interpret a distant familial relationship between the two characters; heck, I don't even watch the show. But I find it absurd that anyone could consider the equivalent of third cousins once removed to be too consanguineous to ship.
