I'm confused. Isn't the term "fandom bicycle" a fannish version of "village bicycle", which (to my knowledge) predates use of the term "little black dress" by... a really long time?

I'm assuming it's not a "this term came first!" thing so much as a "I hate that phrase!" thing.

Which, I don't care either way as it doesn't come up an awful lot in my fandoms, but I can see how "bicycle" is a bit more tacky of the two (although neither are exactly flattering).

To me, 'little black dress' of something means it's the ultimate person/thing that goes with *everything*, and not necessarily sexually, but just (in fic), a character that can easily and believably have a fanon romance or 'ship with anyone.

Bicycle, with it's undercurrent of 'being ridden', just sounds crass and disrespectful.
