I always wonder about things like this. I see a lot of links to "wonderful beautiful amazing artwork!" in BB stories and click the link only to see truly astounding awful work. And I just think "Well, what choice did they have?" Because it's an odd position to be in. It's nice that people want to make art for your story, but it's super awkward when that artwork is awful.

It really endears me to the author when I see this, tbh.

Yeah, I always try to be nice and upbeat in public about the art I've gotten in exchanges and from BBs. Because well, we all start some where in skill level.

yes! I always leave slightly longer feedback and find more things to praise because to grit your teeth and pretend to love terrible photo manip? You're a good woman (generally could be a dude, could be everything else).

Yeah, this. An author I liked did that (linked to "wonderful beautiful amazing artwork!"), but the art was a horrible photo with minimal paint editing over it. Just awful, looked like it took two minutes to make. I felt bad for her.
