Am I the only writer that gets really nervous about fanartists thinking this about the fics they are given in colabs? I've done some bigbangs and a reverse bigbang or three, and every time I worry about whether the artist thinks my work is a piece of crap or not.

As a fanartist, there's usually something in a story to love or enjoy. There'll be something to illustrate, even if the whole thing is kinda garbled. Or not to my taste. In a big bang, we're working from a draft, so I give usually take it with a grain of salt anyway, like this is pre-edit, and don't really judge.

Yes, this. As a big bang writer I'm hoping the artist will at least be inspired by a detail or two, even if they don't like the fic.

You usually work from a draft fic only? I'm impressed. That's hard.

One time I did claim utter badfic because it hit my id but usually it's easy to spot if something is terrible from summaries. Fic I'm just meh about because it turns out to be not my thing but is decently written is still okay to illustrate. But overall yes, sometimes artists complain about the terrible badfic they have to read or they only claim writers they recognize or have an arrangement with to avoid that. And I've never heard a complaint about RBB fic though, if that helps, and in general collab fail like when an author procrastinates and doesn't send a draft that's more the sort of thing that will make artists swear off BBs.
