Ugh, this just about killed me. I liked Yar because she was kickass and take-no-prisoners. I mean, Troi and Crusher are nice and all, but that's the point. They're nice. They're nurturing. They're traditional women. Yar? She's Starbuck just a little too early for her time.

I think part of the problem might lie in how that kind of attitude fits in with the show TNG became. It's not that natural of a fit. I mean, the only main character who really has that kind of attitude after Tasha leaves is Worf, and he constantly gets overridden and ignored. You could also compare Tasha to Ro Laren and Kira from DS9. And although I love both those characters, it felt like the writers of TNG often didn't really know where to go with her character, and I don't think Kira would have fit in on TNG at all.

So, yeah, Tasha was cool, and it would have been good to have a female character with a little more kicking butt. But Tasha might have been a little too far in that direction for TNG, which is probably the least violent Trek there ever was.

That's a really good point. I guess you could say that TNG was a show where you were supposed to find every single option to solve a problem BESIDES punching someone in the face, and Tasha didn't fit in.

Poor Worf. He's still my favorite.
