I'm from Maryland and my initial reaction was "The fuck is a Baltimore accent?" That's still my primary reaction, but even if there is one: it wouldn't actually make much sense to hear much of them. Most of the show actually takes place in Virginia (Will lives in Wolf Trap, the FBI is in Quantico, etc). The only person who lives in Baltimore is Hannibal, who's got his own accent, and maybe the occasional guest star?

Now, if you want to complain about the UNNATURAL amount of snow show!DMV region seems to get, I'm with you on that one.

How do you not know what a Baltimore accent is? Are you a deaf agoraphobe? I'm genuinely curious about how you don't know. It's not as well known as say a Boston or Brooklyn accent, but it's not like it's undetectable. And as pointed out above, both The Wire and Homicide: Life on the Streets had characters with Baltimore accents.

IDK, I have friends from Baltimore, even, and I couldn't pinpoint any particular pronunciation that's so different from my basic MidAtlantic to qualify as a whole different accent.

LOL, I have to second the deaf agoraphobe question. (But I mean that with love. :P) The Baltimore accent is very distinctive (although people can have lighter versions of it than others). I'm writing this on my phone, so it's hard to do links but if you search YouTube for "Baltimore accent" you can find plenty of examples of what it sounds like.

I'm not from Maryland but I lived there for about six years up until not too long ago and...

...I didn't really hear any strong accents. Now, caveat: I was in central Maryland, not Baltimore but like somebody else said...the show doesn't actually really take place in Baltimore.

I was more annoyed about the "totem pole of bodies" episode that appears to take place on a body of water that simply doesn't seem to exist near Grafton, WV (there is a lake near Grafton [Tygart Lake] but it is long and narrow and you could see no opposite shoreline in the scene plus it doesn't really look large enough to make its own waves). Also the speed at which Abigail got from Maryland to Minnesota and back presumably without any real resources on hand considering she's been in an institution.

I'm from Maryland too and never realized I had an accent until I left the area. It was a friend from Michigan who finally pointed it out to me and my sister. But I still don't notice it unless it's really exaggerated. I don't know if it's that way for everyone with an accent, but like, when I hear examples like this:

That all sounds perfectly natural to me. I have to concentrate on each word to pick it out.
