Hi, moron
It's like when people act like they're worldly and cosmopolitan because they eat hummus and grape leaves and kebabs. Dude. It's just yummy chickpea dip.
It doesn't make you special. It doesn't even make you fancy.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 12:26 am (UTC)(link)So, yeah, I agree that foodies are dumb, but I don't think this thing is cultural appropriation, and I think talking about it in those terms is misleading and leads to kind of screwed up conclusions. In particular, I think if you're using the term cultural appropriation for eating a certain kind of food, the implication tends to be that it's simply eating the food that's somehow wrong, not some separate problem with attitude and intent, and that's all kind of messed up, cause food is tasty as heck.
Re: Hi, moron
I guess you could say it isn't "appropriation," but it's definitely appropriation-y. We're splitting hairs.

Could you maybe not do that? I mean, do what you gotta do, but was it really necessary to kick things off with a personal attack?

Well, I suppose you could loosely say my ambition to eat all of the pizzas counts as a mission, but that makes your line about how you're "watching as it unfolds and really like it" really very sinister. I'm going to start closing my curtains before dinner now.
