I think 'manpain' is a fucking stupid word (like mansplain, manswers, etc.) to apply to this context, but I can't fault you for your kinks.

Now all I can think of is that TV show Manswers.

Can we add "mancation" to this list?

Like, why the fuck does anything that a man does have to have the word "man" attached to it? Do they mandrive, and mantype, and manfacebook, and manshit?

They totally manshit, tbh. All the dudes I know like to read on the toilet and generally just take a long time shitting, while the women I know like to get in and out.

AYRT

Okay, that's a good point.

Although I am a woman who kind of occasionally manshits, as every now and then I will pick up the book that my husband has left in the bathroom and start reading it and wind up being in there longer than I expected to be.

We call this "boypoops" -- as in, "He's going to be a while; boypoops take longer."

Ok, I'm totally adding 'manshit' to my vocabulary now

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
...isn't it just a backlash against the whole "herstory" "womyn" thing? IDK I don't use any of the terms in question at all anyway, so I should prolly just shut up about it...

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT

I dunno. BUT. I really hate the "herstory" thing, since the etymology of "history" has absolutely nothing to do with the pronoun "his." It's like...guys, research this shit first, for fucking please.

I just consistently feel like "if you're gonna make a forced Thing of feminising the word 'history', you've got 'hystory' RIGHT THERE"

(I know "hystory", coming from womb, might be considered cissexist, only a. most of the people I've encountered using "herstory" unironically are TERFs anyway and b. trans men haven't exactly been well-represented either so nyah)

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Not stuff like 'mancation' that AYRT is talking about. I think most of that stuff is marketing - attempts to sell things that are normally at least kind of associated with women to men. In a weird and complicated way obv but yeah I think that's where a lot of it comes from - the same kind of thing as that noxious Dr Pepper 10 campaign about how it's NOT FOR WOMEN.

And then you have things like mansplain which are just humorous slang terms.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Mansplain is used when men feel their experience overrides womens.

Like a woman says she constantly has to deal with sexist jerks at work.

And the man say "well I've never seen anyone be sexist at work, so you must be misinterpreting their actions."

no shit dumbass, you're not a woman so they're not going to be sexist to you.

It's not mansplaining because they're a man explaining something, it's because they're being condescending and assuming they know better than a woman.

I know what it is. I still think it's stupid.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
So, why don't women get a gendered word for when we condescendingly assume we know about the difficulties that men go through? (like, IDK, circumcision, or getting drafted in the military, or whatever) Womansplain? Girlsplain?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
The answer is: institutionalized sexism is against women, not men.

Which, really, I understand as an argument for why it's worse when men do it. But it's not a good argument for why it's okay when women do it.

No one should do it. And by saying that women can, people are actually adding fuel to the MRA fire.

Bless you. I've been trying to articulate that point for a while. Great phrasing.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-21 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's right up there with "male tears" and the whole "but what about the menz".
