Wasn't the point of his character to show how modern humans are really no different from zombies? At the beginning, he was a gross, lazy couch potato who played video games all day. And when he became a zombie nothing about his lifestyle changed.

You're not supposed to care or feel sad about how he ended up. You're supposed to try and avoid that fate.

Pretty much. That was kind of the point of the movie.

I think that was a large part of the point, so I agree.

I also think that up until the last bit, he's been a selfish jerk who only contributes by buying/selling weed - hardly what matters in the zombie apocalypse. But in the end, he does step up and shows that he actually *does* care. He defends Barbra (and Shaun), even though they all know that she's turning. He volunteers to be the one freaking EATEN, because they have only 2 slugs for 3 people. And he stays behind to give Shaun and Liz a chance to escape.

He's a good person when he's forced to be. It's just easier for him to be dumb and a sponge. Also - Shaun needs the counterpart to his straight-man.

Actually, I think you're supposed to be relieved that he's 'survived' and pleased that Shaun hasn't lost his friend.
