If it's a cisguy who gets mistaken for a cisgirl, or a cisgirl who gets mistaken for a cisguy, whatever.

Applied to any other situation, no. The problem isn't the word, it's that it gets applied to everything when that's not what it means. Trans* characters aren't "traps" and it's insulting to call one a trap.

I think the meme is kind of funny when "It's a trap!" refers to a guy who happens to be pretty and "feminine" looking. But when it's an implication that the individual is transgender, or cross-dressing, and trying to deceive a man and get them to have sex... and surprise penis... yeah, that's pretty offensive. Not the worst insult, but it's definitely fetish.

Most of the time I don't see people calling trans characters traps, and I spent a lot of time in awful places.
