Agreed. I think some people just use Australia Day as an excuse to get completely plastered and start brawls.

I've no problem with the former, but the latter action is...yeah, no.

I didn't go out this year and hearing from friends/my housemates it's probably a good thing I didn't. Even the family areas on the beach were... urgh soracist.

Not to say cops don't have their bad people, racist fuckheads and corruption issues, but as a whole I do prefer having cops around.

God yes.

Though they could do a better job with public transport. Idk what part you're from, but there are so many less train guards employed in my area now and the police only show up when they're called.

Doesn't help that the public attitude is: You're catching the train alone at night? You want to be raped.

Honestly I don't use the trains because they creep me out, I wouldn't even contemplate catching one at night. I know those...public transport "cops" hang around at stations but I've heard to many stories of friends being harassed and not being able to avoid the person until they reach a station that DOES have a cop presence.

So my impression is they're not prevalent on trains, especially at night :(
