But he's a cat? Doing the job he was probably kept by the family to do? And also, you know, millions of years of evolution?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
why are we applying common logic for a Disney movie?

So? They're sentient critters with language, tools, the ability to feel and express complex emotions and create art.

Pigs are intelligent and we eat them

Disney pigs could fucking sing a song about it. That's higher tier.

oh my god I want this. An HONEST Disney film. How cool would that be?

Also, Charlotte's Web.

If I had talking pig friends who sang songs about helping me through my abusive family struggles I'd try to stop things from eating them. Wouldn't you?

No. I would turn them into delicious bacon and serve them to my abusive family. No more singing porkchops and maybe my abusive family would quit being such jerks.

I... I can't argue with that. I might try and hit you with a broom though. You know, if you kept coming after my musical colony of animal friends.

If we're going to get into sentient vs nonsentient cartoon fauna, do we have evidence that Lucifer is?

Whether or not the mice are persons doesn't really have the same ethical ramifications if the cat isn't one, too. If he's just an animal, then him trying to eat the mice isn't any different than a lion or crocodile or bear eating a human.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
...It's a Disney movie. From 1950. You're seriously trying to play the logic card?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
What I don't get is that there is a world, even a Disney world, where a cat should be expected to not eat. The cat is a dick in the movie, yeah. But he's also a cat, and cats eat mice. even in the 1950s.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
His owners feed him. I remember him getting milk, and in cartoon's that everything a cat could never need or want.

Lucifer hunts and kills for fun.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
even if cats are well-fed, hunting is an innate instinct for them.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Trust me, I know: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/house-cats-kill-wildlife-previously-thought-birds-article-1.1130909

Point being, he's not going to starve if he stops trying to kill and eat the mouse-people, but he continues doing it because their suffering amuses him.

I don't know if that's how real house cats work, but other anons on here sure act like it.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
he does it because he wants to eat them.

if you look at the scenes where he goes after them, he's practically salivating.

And real cats 'play' with their prey because they want to make sure it's dead before they eat it, not because they're being cruel.

Real, well-fed housecats do hunt mice and birds for fun (and instinct and practice). All my cats did! But it's not the other animal's suffering that amuses them; they're not capable of those kinds of thoughts. They just see it as a moving thing that's fun to chase.

it's...it's a disney movie. the mice were cinderella's friends who helped her with chores and made her a pretty dress. the cat was a dick and was chasing the mice because he was a dick and because it's a disney movie and the animal characters don't have the same motivations or behave the way they do in real life. what is even wrong with you?

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And also, because my child is forcing us to watch the damn thing over and over again at the moment so it is fresh in my mind, Lucifer is constantly trying to get the dog in trouble so it'll get kicked out. It's a disney movie, the cat is also a character and he hates Cinderella and makes her life as difficult as he can on purpose.
The mice can *talk* ffs

(Anonymous) 2014-02-23 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Lucifer did that because he was offended Cinderella couldn't think of anything nice to say about him, and Bruno was laughing at him.

(Anonymous) 2014-02-24 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, so? Still makes him a dick cat. He goes out of his way to make Cinderella's life miserable, same as the stepfamily. There's no way you don't understand that. He's an evil cat. That's why his name is LUCIFER. Bagheera, while not a house cat, is still a good cat. 101 Dalmatians came only two years after Sleeping Beauty and has quite a heroic cat in it, the one that initially rescues the puppies.
