We watched a couple episodes of Türkisch für Anfänger in one of my classes and it was pretty funny. I've always meant to see Das Leben der Anderen because everyone says it's really good. If you're interested in music I really like Philipp Poisel and a little bit of Wir sind Helden. And I also recommend reading kids' books (my professor especially loved them), maybe your library has some. We read picture books by Janosch, for chapter books Emil und die Detektive and Oskar, Rico, und die Tieferschatten (probably my favorite). Though you probably have enough reading to do for class :)
