and, like, Watson was modelled after Doyle himself, and the H&W relationship was hella gay mostly because of this
And of course it's like "lol probably nope", and I don't think they were entirely serious, but I found it oddly cute that somebody was even interested enough to concoct a theory like this. Also, the author of the post knew things about Bell and didn't just put random unchecked shit into the post.
I'm oddly pleased, I guess.

I actually think that the creation of the character of Holmes had a lot to do with the relationship between Bell and Doyle. ACD probably did have something of a non-romantic crush on Bell, especially considering the fact that the latter must have looked like a great father figure. With Doyle's father committed to an asylum and incapable of serving as a role model, viewing Bell as one must have been tempting.
And Doyle did write that "for some reason which I have never understood he singled me out from the drove of students who frequented his wards and made me his outpatient clerk". I can never get over the fact that he still had no idea why Bell would "single him out".
