Fandoms you think look really fun even though you don't watch the show

...or read the book series/comics, or haven't seen the film, or whatever.

Which ones, FS? I always thought Star Trek fandom looked awesome even though I don't understand any of it because I've only seen one episode of TOS and maybe two of TNG, but I've seen so much of the fandom by checking it out from the sidelines it feels familiar to me anyway and it was glorious. I'm not so sure it's glorious any more since the reboot film came out though...looks too much like the MCU fandom now.

How about you guys?

A lot of the bigger fandoms!

I like the idea of having something long-running and continuous with a lot of fanwork produced for it, but it's hard for me to get into long running stuff because they're so big.

The Tolkien book universe always looked interesting to me, with the backstory, ad the various characters, and the mythology of the world... If I could get into Tolkien's writing style, I would join the fandom so fast, but his writing style and I just don't get along, unfortunately. :/

As a Tolkien book universe fan, I would actually suggest that you jump in anyway if it sounds fun to you. If you have some Tolkien nerd friends, see if they'll explain stuff to you; most of us love doing that (in my experience)

Not current, but a year or so ago: the whole reason I checked out Starsky & Hutch in the first place was reading about the fandom on fanlore.org. The lowdown was UBER GAYNESS WITH METRIC FUCKTONS OF H/C and I was like "no wai this is from canon u just made it up and are sending me on a fandom snipe hunt rite u gotta b shitting me" and then I checked the show out and it was really like that and I was like ":D"

Also, the Discworld fandom and fictional universe looks really, really cool!

Elementary fandom looks pretty neat.

Stargate Atlantis always looked really cracky, which I like.

Pacific Rim fandom seems really fun and creative.

I can't tell if Welcome to the Night Vale is awesome with a fringe of crap or crap with some awesome mixed in.

I always thought the Transformers fandom seemed like good times.

Always thought Merlin looked to have good fic and fanart but can't be assed to get into it. If I read fic without knowing canon, I feel like I'm fumbling around in a dark room looking for a light switch.

Doctor Who seems like a fun fandom.

Not really? It's a fandom where everyone aren't really interested in what others do, as opposed to Sherlock Holmes for example, where everyone like "he thinks this adaptation is better, go read his post".

Teen Wolf but I'm too lazy to watch the show.

Adventure Time! Especially the Bubbline parts.
