I'm the same way in terms of fandom. Like I love the Zelda games and lore, but I don't have the money to buy all of them, so I've only played a few. The only game series I've played in its entirety is Might and Magic, and I don't know if there's much of a fandom for it, especially now.

For non-serial games, though, I think people are more understanding. Most fans won't give you shit if you haven't read every tie-in novel and creator interview. Also, you don't have to be active in fandom to be a fan of something.
