As someone who is currently in a fandom famous for it's long history of nerds who have read every book... I don't want to be in the nerd part of the fandom because it's full of elitist pricks!

Context: I am currently in the Hobbit fandom, which is also a part of the greater LotR fandom. There's the constant issue of book purist fans who wish the movies were exactly like the books, fans who know chapter and verse of The History of Middle Earth (a collection of 12 books of Tolkiens various notes and such), the fans who may not consider themselves book purists but still hate the movies, fans who have never read the books and only became fans because they watched the movies, and fans who read the books and still liked the movies.

Not everyone is dedicated enough to go read HoME and such. They can still be in the fandom, I just advise they have a link to one of the wikis to do research if they're starting to go into First Age stuff (which can be very damn easy if you're looking into the background of Elves).
