I've always had to show my ID for any prescription, including BC. I've lived in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Florida, Colorado, Oklahoma, Nebraska, California, Arizona, and Texas. I think I'm forgetting one or two places, but you get the point. I think it's strange if someone doesn't have to show ID to pick up a prescription.

I don't have to show ID at my usual pharmacy because all of the pharmacists there know me by now, but I've had to show it when I got prescriptions filled somewhere else. I always assumed that it was so the pharmacy could be sure that the meds were going to the person they were actually intended for rather than someone trying to get them illegally.

As a pharm tech who has thankfully left retail long behind her, sometimes it was because we had multiple patients with the same name, and a great deal of people do NOT listen when we say, "And your name is [Name] and you're at [Address]?"

We switched to saying, "And your address is?" or "And your date of birth is?" making them give the information to US because it forces them to pay attention.
