Okay but...why would you even care about generic, poorly-drawn, or unrecognizably stylized fanart?

How else do you look at fanart? Open fanart website, click on interesting looking thumbnails and hope to heck that the artist decided to tell you what's going on in their masterpiece.

Even on tumblr people still draw and post stuff just assuming you know what it is.

The way they describe it makes it sound negative, yeah, but I've seen situations where the style or the idea of the fanart is cute but I really can't tell who one or more characters are supposed to be. There's this one rather puzzling piece of shippy video game fanart where the guy is kissing... well, one of his love interests. And it's really pretty, it's just unfortunate that the hair coloring ends up being somewhere in the middle of both their hair colors and the viewpoint of the drawing is such that you can't see the hairstyle clearly, she's not wearing an official outfit, so it's like "well who is he kissing???" I've seen it reposted tagged as either girl! So I can see this happening in other cases too, where it's nice enough to look at but you just... can't tell who the artist quite intended to portray.
