Re: UGH Sansa Stark (ASOIAF)

I'm still reading ADWD and Sansa has yet to return to the story. I rather like Sansa overall [so far], although in the beginning I didn't look forward to her chapters because she was very firmly ingrained in the medieval-esque feminine culture (one of the reasons I never really warmed to Catelyn either) and she didn't try to make waves. And yet, unlike Catelyn, I grew to really appreciate Sansa because her early chapters seemed like necessary setup to show her growth.

I also like her because she's a pretty unique character. Many other fantasies have long-lost royal heirs (Dany) and badass tomboy waifs (Arya) and ladies who'd rather be knights (Brienne), and I know what type of tropes get associated with them; but a character like Sansa is uncommon. Her closest comparable character is obviously Lady Alais from The Lion in Winter, who quite literally describes herself as a pawn in a game with kings and queens and knights. But because there aren't a lot of other characters like her, one of the reasons I'm always interested to come back to her chapters is because I don't know what will happen with Sansa next.
