I know it's fandom-specific, but that text applies to SO MANY pairings, holy god. If I wanted to read about two generic romantic leads being mushily in love without any conflict, ambiguity, "is it antagonism or a maladjusted gesture of affection?", or ambivalence about the true nature of the deep-seated Feelings they have about each other... I'd be off reading fic about the canon's main romantic pairing.

(Icon, unfortunately, related.)

You pretty much took the words out of my mouth. If I wanted mushy romance, I'd go read something about a couple who has a mushy romance canonically. Or at least, about two people who seem to be inclined towards mushy romance. Otherwise, it's like your two favourite characters have undergone lobotomies before the fic started, and it's not really them you're reading about... since everything that made their relationship interesting and intriguing has been taken away.

Also, anyone putting the Master in a mushy romance makes me want to weep inside. Ow.
