Well, marrying your cousin is legal in most countries around the world. Including the country where the film was set. The only places where it is illegal is in the US and Asia afaik. So treating it as a normal thing in the film... it is kinda normal if they are legally allowed to have a relationship.

They also haven't seen each other in years, if ever, so for all intents and purposes it's like a boy meeting a new girl he likes and vice versa. The aspect I liked was that the movie didn't treat it like some big omgtaboobreaking thing.

ha, sorry I misread the secret. I read it as you were not happy. Sorry!

Yeah... I live in a country where it's perfectly legal and not unheard of (not that it's common or anything, but it happens) and then I come to the internet a few years ago and everyone (well, fandom is kina dominated by people from the US I think) is all EEEEEW INCEST KILL IT WITH FIRE. I was pretty surprised tbh. ^^;

Okay I watched it today just because of this secret and I really enjoyed it.

I really wonder where that allergy towards this sort of incest comes from. It seems that it's only that strong with USAmericans.
(and don't give me that eugenics-crap. it's absolutely not rational. eugenics only serve as an a posteriory legitimation of a gut feeling in this case.)
In my country, it's completely legal, though not common. Whether people find it problematic depends on many factors, like how close they were as kids ad so on. But it's certainly not a major squick, much less a collective cultural one.
I mean, even with incest between siblings (like jaime/cersei), which is illegal in my country, too, still I don't know anyone here who'd go "OMG!! Gross! No wonder they're the bad guys!! Incest is evil!". Where does that come from? Why even care? Does it touch a nerve from way back in pioneer-time, or what?
