Imo, the evidence is SO strong in favor of R+L=J that any thing else would feel like GRRM pulled it out of his ass.

You see, people saying things like what you just said is why people like OP want it not to be true.

She's a Ned/Cat shipper. Jon actually being Ned's son would force her to stop idealizing their relationship.

Someone is a little cranky today. You need your binky?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-01 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL I'm pretty sure it'd be better for a shipper if Jon were Ned's son, and Ned hasn't been lying to her wife the whole time.

See, it's weird for me to hear that, because I always assumed it was pretty obvious that Jon was the actual Aegon Targaryen, and the "lost prince" last seen bumming around on a raft is another decoy from a game of Three-Baby Monte not unlike the one at the beginning of Good Omens. Heck, I assumed that Aegon only got introduced because too many people were figuring out that Jon was obviously Aegon and GRRM wanted to preserve some surprise.

So I guess different stuff seems obvious to different folks? :)

Imo, R+L=J is the only thing that adequately explains Ned's actions and behavior which is why I'll be shocked if anything else is true.

Like sure Ned wouldn't like Robert killing innocent baby Aegon.

But I don't think he'd raise Aegon himself, incurring the displeasure of his wife and potentially endangering his entire family if it were for anyone other than Lyanna's child.

Idk. R+L=J seemed obvious to me from AGOT with the "promise me, Ned" flashbacks.

"Promise me" could be "Promise me you won't tell I went with Rhaegar willingly because I don't want people to hate me and blame me for the war." Isolated as she was at the Tower of Joy, it would have been Rhaegar's decision whether to tell her what became of her father and brother. It's possible she died without knowing what happened to Rickard and Brandon.

Yeah, this. I've always felt it was pretty obvious and it makes so much more sense as far as Ned's character goes.
