I imagine he'll have plenty of time to do more artsy stuff when his current popularity dries up. Think of Loki and other such light roles as financial investments. Also as an investment in fun, as he seems to be having a blast with it.

My thoughts exactly.

Big brand movies (I suspect) help put the money in the pocket, and probably free an actor up to pursue projects he/she might be more personally invested/interested in. Also, it does look like a helluva alot of fun.
