I didn't even know there were Cat haters. Every person I follow on tumblr likes her. CLEARLY I HAVE FOUND THE SAFE HAVEN IN THIS STORM.

There are a loooooooot of creepy misogynistic fans in GofT. The series doesn't help, with the constant parade of female flesh.

I've seen haters of other female characters on GoT, but never for Cat or Arya. I'd like to keep it that way.

I'm pretty sure EVERYONE likes Arya. Just about every ranking of characters I've seen puts her in the top 10, usually top 5.

I don't like Arya. I don't hate her, but I find her trite and overrated. (Yes I do also feel that way about a lot of the popular male characters blah blah /"not misogyny" disclaimer)

Same. I find her chapters terribly boring and.

I like Arya a lot, but it makes me sad that I think one of the reasons she's so popular is that she's the ~tomboy~ and subverts a lot of feminine stereotypes/qualities, and you know, masculine = better according to culture :/

This is true. It's the reason a few of my friends give me weird looks for liking Sansa more than Arya. "But she's so badass and she fights with a sword and she doesn't wear dresses!"

And I'm more of a dress-wearing, less aggressive type, that's why I relate to Sansa more. Apparently that's bad? It doesn't mean I can't appreciate Arya's character.

I relate to Arya sooo much more, and I didn't care for Sansa in the first book because she seemed like kind of a brat, but once her character started to grow I liked her.

Yeah, that response is dumb. Basically: "she's more masculine obv she is better!" and people don't really realize they are saying this :/

only thing that I can kinda get on board with is Arya's more of a rebel and fights the roles pushed on her, while at first Sansa appears to totally embrace her role, and I can see why one or the other might appeal to people. But even that gets more complicated as Sansa finds herself trapped and in danger because of her vulnerable position. (aaaand then I haven't read far enough to want to say more lest I be spoiled by discussion)

Cat gets a lot of hate. The only real reason I can think to dislike her is for the way she treated Jon Snow, but some people hate her for all sorts of weird reasons.

I wonder how many people dislike her just because she obviously prioritizes her marriage and children. There are people who go on about how that sort of thing is ~not empowered~.

It's why I find her chapters terribly boring. Those just aren't topics that interest me.

nothing wrong with not caring about that stuff, but it's one thing to not care and another to hate her/attack her character/say she is a Bad Female Character for being a mother whose first priority is her kids. There is nothing wrong with her being that at all.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe some people do, but I've also seen a lot of people (on reddit mostly) say that 'uugh Robb should just have sent her back to Winterfell' so it's definitely not the only reason.

hm, that might have to do with stuff beyond where I've read. I've finished book 3, so if other stuff happened that made people say that, idk yet.

I've seen others blame her (and only her) for starting the war in the first place by capturing Tyrion and claim it's entirely her fault that the Red Wedding happened.

These are usually from the same dudebros who worship Littlefinger and take all responsibility for the war off him. It's ridiculous how far the GOT fandom will go when it comes to pointing fingers at the wrong fucking people. This fandom is clinically stupid.
