Re: Tropes!!

LOVE:

Intergenerational Friendships. I love age-gaps in friendships sooo much. Young!Girl/Adult!Guy seems to be the most common, but I would really like to see more with the genders reversed now and then. (I would really like to just see more in general. ;_;)

Face-Heel Turns and everything that goes with them. Preferably if the normally good and kindhearted character has had enough of the way the heroes treat them, and decides to willingly let The Corrupter lead them into the darkside. I also love watching the most genuinely moral characters make bad decision after bad decision until they realize they're back-sliding into evil, and it's too late do anything about it, so why try to stop?
(Weirdly enough, I don't like the reverse. Maybe it's because I hardly ever find the Big Bad's redemption believable or in-character? Wish I could find an exception to that rule, but alas.)

Malevolent Masked Men. Gas Mask Mooks, White Mask of Doom, Rage Helm, Gas Mask Longcoat, Mask of Power, just... Masks. I love them. I actually feel like shouting at my screen when the character takes the mask off. "No! Stop! You looked cooler with it on!" (OOH, unless it's a Dramatic Unmask that reveals The Big Bad/The Dragon is one of the good guys. Surprise Face-Heel Turn!)

Villainous Crushes. I like it best when the villain admires/respects/maybe-sort-of has feelings for the hero, but still won't hesitate to kick their ass and/or kill them, because ~Villain Reasons~ trump whatever pesky emotions they may be feeling. Don't like it when this results in Dating Catwoman though. (But I do enjoy the occasional We Can Rule Together speech, preferably ending with the hero saying something along the lines of "Fuck no, and fuck you". + additional points if this makes the villain crush on them even harder.)

Also: robots that are trying to understand ~feelings~, animals that act like dogs, platonic boy-girl friendships, mama bear/papa wolf couples, awesome siblings who kick-ass and take names, and bad guys who don't excuse their behavior or blame it on someone else.

(I will get down on my knees and beg for recs including any of the above tropes. Act now and I'll throw in my first-born child for $150 S/H free.)

HATE:

As mentioned above, Heel-Face Turns. (aka, Villain Redemption.) (ESPECIALLY when it's a female villain, probably related to The Big Bad in some way, that falls in love with the hero and ends up backstabbing The Big Bad for him. ENOUGH. ENOUGH OF THAT.)

Dawson Casting. I understand the reasoning for it, but I would still like to see more people barely out of their teenage years playing characters that are supposed to be teenagers. Maybe just once? Please?

Double Standard: Female on Male Rape. Book, movie, or show uses this trope? I'm out. Done. Terminado. No exceptions.

Also: kids forgiving their abusive parents (I'll admit this one's personal), "snarky bad boys" that aren't as funny or charming as the writers think they are, useless love triangles that are only added for the sake of drama, patient/therapist romance (SQUICK), and the minority/disabled character who is only useful because of their magical powers.

(I will also give you a big kiss for any recs that subvert those tropes. Subverted tropes are my secret addiction, shhhh.)
