I'm not a big DC fan
(Anonymous) 2014-03-02 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)It's not like I don't think a writer could do something interesting with him, but I do think it would be difficult.
I'm in the fandom for Marvel movies and have only seen Captain America in the movies but, God, I absolutely adore him as a character. He's not a 'flaw heavy' character but at least he has the fact he's a bit socially awkward and selfless to the point of hurting himself. He's a bit idealized, but its pulled off well.
I also really like Iron Man as well, but for different reasons

While I'm basing this off heresay, from what I've gathered Superman is seen as a 'broken' hero - he is too perfect (and/or too powerful), so it gets difficult to create engaging conflict while still keeping him in-character and consistent with the previously established power levels. It's certainly not impossible, but it is very difficult and apparently it shows with many or most of the writers that end up writing for Superman.
