I'm not too into Superman honestly, but I've grown to respect him as a character more in recent years. A lot of writers have portrayed him with his only flaw being that he's ~too perfect~, which is very Mary Sue to me. But some writers have also written Cap as very self-righteous and nationalistic, which is annoying in a different way. So really, it all comes down to the writer of the particular story.

I think they both hold their own as characters, idealized as they might be at times, and I hardly think they're forgettable considering the very long history in comics they both have. I adore Captain America, and to me, he is one of the most human of the superheroes. Plus, I adore the relationship between him and Tony Stark because they're so different, but they work so well together.
