X and X-2 never really grabbed me the same way VII VIII and IX did. Tidus kinda bored me. Rest of the cast were just as cool as FF supporting characters should be, but I just couldn't get on-board the Tidus train. The world felt smaller as well. That might just be me, tho.

OT but I'm really glad to see another VIII fan. ;3;

I don't have a PS3, and the PS4 I was planning on buying doesn't have backwards compatability, so... It's a bit hard to be excited. And honestly? I've yearned for a prequel about Jecht, Auron, and Braska for so long now, dammit! Graphics are not important to me when it comes to video games, so that's also a factor.

But yes, as someone who still clings to LJ, I also miss the communities.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
If that terrible X-3 idea had been a prequel, I would've been way on board.

That said, I have a PS3 and dropped a nice chunk for the collector's edition (I played this before Symphonia), so no opinion there. I see a lot more people talking about getting the Vita one, which surprised me.

If I have time off during spring break I am going to spend all day playing this, but I've never felt fannish about it like I do about 7 or 8. I think X-2 satisfied my need for more Yuna. It felt like really good fanfic.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really looking forward to this release! I wasn't into gaming when it came out originally but I really want to play it now that I have some experience.

To be fair, remastered games are kinda boring. I mean, it's essentially the same game except with prettier graphics, which not everyone cares about. Plus Final Fantasy X-2 is one of the weakest games in the series anyway.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It's kinda sad that people think this is only pretty graphics. Obviously the marketing is failing itself. It's way more than that. Oh my gosh, way more.

This list even highlights the little details:
http://warnersisterdot.tumblr.com/post/77844829625/8-little-final-fantasy-x-2-remaster-things-to-look

but there is seriously so much more to it. You will be playing a game that Japan has had to themselves for over a decade + there is brand new content. I agree that remasters are boring and, in my opinion, quite pointless since I personally don't gaf about nice graphics. But this is definitely something that's worth buying, especially if you're a huge fan of both games

What I really want to find is the Bravely Default fandom. Since everyone says it's the actual successor to Final Fantasy, I thought there'd be a ready made fandom already sprung up, but apparently not.

I'm still writing fic for Bravely Default (I love so many of the bosses, they're so more interesting than the teenage main characters). But it seems a bit sad with no one to share meta and fic with, and all the fanart is in Japanese.

I wish it took off like FE fandom.

I'm looking forward to it! Granted I'm not really in the fanbase anymore and tbh I probably won't buy it right away (and wouldn't play it right away even if I did), but FFX and X-2 are two of my favorite RPG's and I want to play them again. It doesn't matter to me if there aren't any huge differences in the HD version; just having the games on a more convenient platform (I hate having to drag my PS2 out, and the updated graphics will be nice) is worth the money imo.

(Oh, and I miss LJ too, of course. Though there are still some active comms, on a whole fandom has seemed to have moved on.)

I thought X was overrated when it came out, (more of a V, VI, VII and IX fan myself) but now it kind of has nostalgia value for me. I'd replay it... but honestly, compared to my favorites - and games I play in general - X's graphics are still really good and I'm not sure why it needed to be retouched. I guess it's ten years old now (omg) but surely there's no one out there who feels they can't play it because the graphics are dated or something, like people might with I-VI or VII, VIII and IX.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I bought it in case my PS2 ever dies + some nostalgia value. I was young enough that it was my first one, although that was just timing in terms of the console jump (IX is now my favorite). But I agree about the graphics. They also didn't fix some clipping issues, which seems to be a constant issue with remasters. I noticed the same stuff with KH, Symphonia and SotC, though, so I'm not sure if it's a genuinely hard thing to redo or not.

I really love this game. ♥ It was the first Final Fantasy game I'd ever played (after hearing about the series for years and years), and I fell so hard for it. I agree, it'd be nice if the fandom for it revitalized. That being said, I personally don't care about the new version. Graphics just aren't super important to me.

I to me, x was more of a completed story than something that happened in a living, breathing world compared to some of the other games. (Being on a more or less linear path didn't help.) So while I really enjoyed it, I can see it not getting quite the same revival as those games with a little more freedom.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm excited for this remaster as well. Especially X-2. FFX was kind of meh for me, but I adored FFX-2. It was just so damn fun to play.

I too miss LJ comms, they used to be so much fun and there was so much great discussion to be had. I haven't had the same experience with other sites.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
I just don't see what's there to be excited about. Does it have new material? Because otherwise it's the same game with shinier graphics, and it's not like the original ones were horrible.

[personal profile] ex_earthshaker594 2014-03-04 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
It does, actually. There's an included radio drama set after X-2 that's been included in the wider releases. S-E used that and a terribly received novel as a possible turning point toward X-3, but Japan seems to have shut them down on that front.

I'm excited for this release in terms of having more remasters in general (although I'll have a hard time squishing this and Symphonia in between BD's timesuck), but I was never in the fandom when I first played, and I don't mind it being absent minus the occasional Tumblr. I obsess a lot more over IX and Ivalice, even though this was my first. I hope this means they'll decide to do a XII remaster like they hinted they could.

Aside from the whole dispersal of fandom across many sites thing--I didn't expect much a fandom revival for X/X-2 since the main audience for remasters are old fans. A re-release may temporarily rekindle interest in fans who have drifted away over the years, but I wouldn't expect more than a modest uptick in fan activity at best. :c

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
All the HD release has done is remind me how much I HATED Yuna as a character. What a godawful, horribly written, bland human being. I enjoyed the game, but X-2 makes me want to carve my skin off with a knife and guarantees that I'll never re-visit X.

I am so fucking happy about this remaster. I know it's the same game and only slightly prettier, but I honestly could not give two fucks. FFX is my favorite game in the whole FF series, has some of my favorite characters, the sphere grid is super fun (I just love those little sounds), and GOD SO PRETTY. I can't wait to see Seymour Guado and Auron and Sin in SUPER HD AWESOMENESS. (Also I hate having to hook up my PS2 to play the game so to me, it's totally worth the money.)

And I love FFX-2 as well. No, it wasn't a strong game, but I like getting the dresspheres, I like the characters, and fuck if I don't love a happy ending for Tidus and Yuna. Tidus annoys me, but I love Yuna and I want her to be happy.

I feel like the fandom that got the biggest for FF was VII, but it makes sense because there was a really pretty film for it. Pretty bishies all over it, and let's be real, that's one of the main things people expect from FF now.

I tried really hard to get into Final Fantasy. I even own a PILLOW with both of these girls on it (I think. I'm rly drunk right now forvige me if I'm wrong, I think one of them is named Yna? *Yuna? Anyway, I own the official pillow.)

(It's not a body pillow it's just a regular pillow I think I have a pic)

(focus, nurse.)

I tried so hard to get into this! It was the "in" thing. Like it was the BEST GAME and everyone played it and junk. But I just hated it? I couldn't get into Kingdom Hearts, etuher. Wow I give up on trying to type that word. Hi. I even bought a pillow with final fantasy on it because I thought it was the cool thing to do?

I think it was the battle system that turned me off. They just. Kept attacking. And maybe at that poiunt I was too used to Pokemon style battles.

I DID however like the Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu games that I downloaded fromm an emulator site. I never finished them but I enjoyed STARTING them with different characters and boy oh boy did I have ships. I was like 12-16 at the time I played them so I was REALLY hyper-sexual. If you want to talk Secret of Mana ships when I'm sober, send me a private message. Make sure you mention I was drunk when I told you to do this. Someday I oughta finish that one game. I think it was Secret of Mana 3?

I think I was gonna say something else but I forget.

Anyway, A+ secret.

Maybe people are waiting until it's actually re-released to get all fannish about it. I don't ever get fannish in anticipation of something being released. I didn't with Lightning Returns, I'm not with Game of Thrones.

When they come out is a different story. That's when the nostalgia tide hits.

I have nothing to say about Final Fantasy, but I do miss LJ communities. And icons, layouts, & moodthemes. *sigh* The good old days.
