You'd actually be surprised how many bronies have this as their fanon. *roll eyes* Take that as you will.

In the show, Angel is kind of a brat. On occasion, he's smacked Fluttershy because he wanted something else for dinner and she had just given him plain old food he wasn't interested in eating. If anything, he's more like a spoiled child who doesn't get told no (which fits since Fluttershy is a bit of a doormat until she learns assertiveness). But he does care about her. He just likes to have things go his way when it comes to food and stuff.

Not to mention that Angel is frequently shown ensuring that Fluttershy gets things her way when she's on the verge of letting her shyness get the better of her.

I thought the whole thing was just overplayed for lulz. Obviously Angel cares about her, he's just a little jerk sometimes. And as other people have said, it fits with her being a doormat (there was an entire episode where she learned to stick up for herself and it ended with her not giving in to one of Angel's tantrums).

I would say I'm surprised that people think he's "abusive" (he's her pet rabbit with no real control over how she lives 99.99% of her life), but with this fandom honestly nothing surprises me...

Also 20+year bunny owner, and... this makes me actually want to watch MLP. XD Because yes, they are egotistical demanding little buggers, not nearly as sweet and harmless as most people think. So full of personality. Sounds like they may have gotten it right.

I feel like the people who think that way don't see Angel as a pet. This is a show about personified ponies, and a lot of other creatures are personified, too. Angel and the pets aren't actually supposed to be, but I think it's fairly understandable for someone to automatically personify them in their minds too. I think it's also because it's Fluttershy. I don't even like her that much but it gets kinda painful to see how much she gets kicked around, so to some people Angel is just one more character that takes advantage of her. I agree, he's just a spoiled rabbit, but I understand why people are seeing this.
