no anon you're getting it the wrong way around

starting a thread to gush over female characters is great and does not make you an sjw

shaming people and making people feel bad for liking male characters, as if society already doesn't shame women for liking things they like enough already. that is your problem

+1

No kidding. I have times where I want to gush over awesome ladies, and there are times where I want to gush over awesome guys. And lots of people I know are like that, too. OP needs to get over themselves, imho.

Exactly. Do guys who spend all their time gushing over female characters and how great they are in addition to not caring that much about male characters get any flack? Lmao no.

Only because most of the time men only gush over a female character do so because they want to fuck them, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with her CHARACTER.

It's same for girls, in some cases at least. Hot guy is a good enough reason for me to fan over. Of course the hotness depends on a character too. Same with guys.

Yeah, pretty much. Being vocal about "wanting to talk about women" and being vocal about "being sick of people talking about their male crushes" aren't actually the same thing.

This. Thank you. I'm tired of being told what to like and what not to like on the grounds of feminism. It's misogynist to think that women need to be policed in the matter of their tastes.

This. I actally have a strong preference for shows/movies with a majority-male cast. I'm a straight woman, and I enjoy looking at males, including ones who are not conventionally handsome. I like watching them in action: physical or mental action.

And yes, I find the majority of female characters very uninteresting, but that might be a "chicken and egg" scenario: is it that people don't bother to create interesting female characters because nobody cares, or does nobody care about the female characters because they're uninteresting?

I suspect it's a vicious cycle and self-fulfilling prophecy, where female characters are treated as an afterthought and so they are not fully-formed, interesting characters, and therefore they don't capture people's attention.

I still prefer male characters regardless, though, except maybe in a show like Downton Abbey which is truly an ensemble cast.

This. You worded this so much better than I did and hit the nail on the head.
