I think "being sick of people talking about their male crushes" actually does imply that the OP doesn't like people gushing over guys, actually.

And, honestly there actually are reasons not to gravitate towards female-dominated media besides the actual presence of women. I love female characters, and almost all my favourite characters are women, but I don't tend to enjoy a lot of works that have female protagonists, because those works often employ tropes that I don't enjoy (romance-related tropes, basically; I don't like romance in general). Films, books, and TV shows that have male protagonists, large numbers of male characters, and are geared towards men, are usually (though not always) less romance-driven than ones with female protagonists, large numbers of female characters, and geared towards women. Now, that's an issue with sexism in the industry, but I fail to see how it's sexist on my part.

that sounded more to me like op being frustrated with the sexism. if you have something forced down your throat often enough it should really come as no surprise when you find yourself being sick of it.

i think your reasons are entirely valid and not sexist at all but personally i think you're an exception to the rule when it comes to reasons people avoid female-dominated pieces of media.

I don't think ayrt is the exception. I would much rather have an action oriented show with as little romance as possible, mostly because I think a lot of shows don't give you enough character development to justify their random pairings. I also hate romantic jealousy plots. Not too many female heavy shows that exclude those tropes. Do you know how happy I was that Frozen had familial love over romantic love? I would watch the shit outta shows like that, but you don't see them often. Makes me sad. Even shows I want to love like Rizzoli and Isles get to me because OMG THE CITY IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE but I gotta tell this dude that were not gonna work out before I save folks kthxbai.

guh, romantic jealousy. I hate it. And I love romance (I mean I love a lot of things and enjoy a lot of things that aren't romantic, but I like romance a lot too) but romantic jealousy can just take a left; it's almost always grating.

but gushing over male characters =/= sexism
