Re: Frozen won best animated?

Personally I'm sick of people saying Miyazaki should've won while admitting in the same breath that they haven't even seen The Wind Rises. How can you say it should've beat Frozen if you haven't even watched it? (FWIW, I have seen both and while I enjoyed The Wind Rises it is by no measure Miyazaki's best and I wouldn't say it 'deserved' the Oscar over Frozen. Ernest and Celestine, OTOH...)

Also sick of people complaining about how racist Frozen is while ignoring other nominees Despicable Me 2, whose POC villain is voiced by a white guy, and The Croods, a story of prehistoric humans who seem to be tanned white people. But I guess those are okay because Tumblr didn't already decide to hate them before they came out and now must desperately justify that hate by any means possible.

Ah, Benjamin Bratt, who voiced El Macho, is mixed. He's German, English and Quechua (Native Peruvian) heritage. He's a Hispanic actor playing a Hispanic role.

Sorry, I don't get what's potentially racist about The Croods starring white people who are tanned? not even with tumblr logic do I understand the point here?

SJW don't make sense. That's why they are SJW. Ignore him/her.

In the real world, the earliest humans weren't white at all. Some people are mad because white cavepeople is erasing that fact and claiming everyone's descended from white people. However, if they hadn't been white, there would be criticism for implications of POC = cavepeople = barbaric, and ones going "Fine, so it's historically accurate, but you ~*~know~*~ that's not why the animators did it"

I'm pretty sure we don't know what ancient humans looked like, and have no idea if white features came around later though? In fact, I just read an article the other day about new evidences that dark skin may have evolved as a protection against skin cancer, implying that possibly the earliest humans had light or medium color skin at least.

And we really don't fucking know at all.

I mean, we know based on behavior patterns they didn't stay in caves all day, so they weren't lilly, but that's about it. Not like we got skin samples to test for melanin.

This is probably not what AYRT meant, but I can kinda of see the point if it's, "The reasoning for hating on Frozen is so flimsy and reaching you might as well hate on these other movies too for equally flimsy and reaching reasons." Because that's how I feel every time I read some tumblr manifesto on the racism inherent in Frozen.

Yeah, I enjoyed The Wind Rises and I appreciate Miyazaki for making it, but reading the reviews it's obvious that it hasn't played well to American audiences OR critics. Even if Frozen hadn't been nominated The Wind Rises probably wouldn't have won.

Ernest and Celestine was lovely, and I am a little sad it's not going to benefit from any sort of Oscar bump. Frozen, of course, needs no such bump. :P
