Frozen won best animated?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Burn it all down.

Dinsey is overrated as hel.

Disney is an overrated Norse goddess?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, but I'm not sure what should have won instead.

Yeah, that movie was dumb as fuck and I don't get the hype.

Re: Frozen won best animated?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, not sorry. Too busy laughing at all the SJWs that said this movie was going to bomb when it first came out. That how dare Disney make another movie where the leads were white. And it turns out kids of all ethnic backgrounds and sexes love the sisters and relate to them. Which I think is awesome because it means that studios will be less weary to put out movies with female leads.

And now Frozen has won an Oscar and is quickly becoming one of those most profitable animated movies ever.

Oh, the tears of joy.

I did want Monsters University to win ;_;

You and me both. Hell, I would have been happy if it was even nominated in the first place!

Re: Frozen won best animated?

Err, what was the competition? Of course it was going to win. The only competitor was really The Wind Rises, which I haven't seen because it didn't come out in theaters here yet... but I heard it's one of Miyazaki's more, uhh, boring films.

Re: Frozen won best animated?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
The worst Miyazaki film will still be hundreds of times better than neo Disney.

C'mon anon, you know the Madoka movie didn't work as a stand alone and ruined the conclusion of the tv series.

I wanted the French film or the Japanese film to win. CGI is so fucking ugly and the reason why I barely watch animated western films anymore. Give me my 2D animation back.

Re: Frozen won best animated?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I miss 2D too and I feel like so many CGI films don't even both to get creative with their art styles.

I'd love to see a claymation resurgence too.

Might be time to take off those nostalgia goggles, friend. You can see the animation clearer without then, and my god is it stunning.

Re: Frozen won best animated?

I thought Frozen was prettier than most, but I agree, I like 2D better. CGI does this weird caricature faces - I know, I know, traditional animation does, too, but it's endearing in cartoon for me, jarring in 3D. I think it's also the atmosphere of the 2D Disney movies was so different. Lion King, Beauty and the Beast... they were so epic, but the 3D ones feel a lot more goofy and never reach those proportions.

Almost all of the industry is CGI now, even the 2D animation. South Park gave up on cut-up after the pilot.

The convergence of styles between Dreamworks, Pixar, and Disney has very little to do with software or production method, and almost everything to do with marketing and artistic design.

Eh, Frozen is better than the mess that was Brave's win last year. The Pirates!, ParaNorman, and WIR were all considerably better. I didn't get a chance to see Frankenweenie.

I wanted Ernest & Célestine to win because of national pride but there's no hard feelings; Frozen seems like a good movie

Re: Frozen won best animated?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Personally I'm sick of people saying Miyazaki should've won while admitting in the same breath that they haven't even seen The Wind Rises. How can you say it should've beat Frozen if you haven't even watched it? (FWIW, I have seen both and while I enjoyed The Wind Rises it is by no measure Miyazaki's best and I wouldn't say it 'deserved' the Oscar over Frozen. Ernest and Celestine, OTOH...)

Also sick of people complaining about how racist Frozen is while ignoring other nominees Despicable Me 2, whose POC villain is voiced by a white guy, and The Croods, a story of prehistoric humans who seem to be tanned white people. But I guess those are okay because Tumblr didn't already decide to hate them before they came out and now must desperately justify that hate by any means possible.

Ah, Benjamin Bratt, who voiced El Macho, is mixed. He's German, English and Quechua (Native Peruvian) heritage. He's a Hispanic actor playing a Hispanic role.

I think the worst thing about it was apparently quite a few of the judges didn't even give votes for animated film because they "didn't watch any of them" and the two or three that did chose Frozen, so that's how it won.
