I'm also curious about the source, but I'm skeptical. I don't think there's been real studies about slash fans.

Though I'd wonder at the theory that many women who feel they are very "pro gay" consider themselves, on a more philosophical level, to be "open" to falling in love with someone of their gender. Would a slash fan, even if she were basically a straight woman, be more likely to identify as "open" or "slightly bisexual" because she identifies with the gay pairing she ships?

that probably sounded stupid when I typed it, but I'm really curious.

Well, I mean, they're pretty informal studies so the numbers are rough, but I think it proves that the anon who said 85% of slashers are straight women is overestimating the amount of straight people who read slash.

Even if it's only about 40% if you discount heteroflexible women, that's still a large number of queer readers.

I have to admit I'm always surprised when people say that the majority of slash readers are straight because the majority of people I've met in fandom who like slash pairings are definitely queer and many have been or are in queer relationships. It's funny because the two closest friends I have in fandom are both straight, but one of them isn't interested in m/m slash at all.
