Another voice chiming in for Holocaust AUs here. I also can never read prostitution or BDSM World AUs (everyone everywhere is either a dom or a sub, the end). My dislike of prostitution AUs is more of a personal preference and less of a value judgement, but BDSM World AUs make me feel sick and unpleasant. It isn't just the lack of choice or freedom there, it's about the reflection on the way the author thinks. I know every fic does this to some extent, and I also know there are worse fics out there, but no other trope makes me so uncomfortably aware of the author. I don't know why.

I, too, hate BDSM World AUs, and their misbegotten child, the Alpha/Beta/Omega AU. They're incredibly disturbing to me in the way that they reflect traditional, mistaken gender ideas, and then turn those UP TO ELEVEN for, apparently, the HOTNESS (???). I do not want to get into the head of someone that wants to create a world where half the people are ~naturally submissive~ and need a ~strong hand~, where they're treated like property and ugh, just thinking about it makes me feel sick.

Urgh, yeah, BDSM world AUs are a definite no-no. I'm with you, they also make me feel kind of ill.

This, yes. The whole - 'by the age of six, you've been tested and you are a sub! Whoo hoo!!' thing in so many of those fics makes me sick to my stomach, and sadly, while the A/B/O thing could be interesting, it pretty much always goes the way of exploitation, dehumanization, and sometimes even torture-porn. Just...cannot.

Is it really that common with A/B/O? I mean, I've read a fair amount of it [usually because it's not tagged, granted -_-;;],but it's almost always been set up to where the Omega had the right and ability to say "no, not interested". The few that didn't had more to do with the time period they were set in [basically, they were arranged marriages that neither person had a say in] than anything else from what I could tell.

I'm not trying to be snarky, and I apologize if that's how it comes off, I just haven't really seen any that's the way you described? [I've probably just been lucky, but yeah. ^^;;]

You have been lucky. Not *all* A/B/O fics are like was discussed in the thread, but way too many for my liking.
