(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 04:09 am (UTC)(link)Exactly. I'm not going to like them if there's nothing to like. They need to capture my imagination in some way. And a character who is nothing but a trope is dead weight, especially in a comedy.
Ironically, I suspect that many male writers of movies/shows believe that female viewers DO want romcom stereotypes and certain types of "stock" chracters, so that is what they give us.
