I agree. I think a large part of it is that a lot of level design involves repetition of similar textures and assets.

Which is probably why the last time I got lost was in Fucking Florida. Made a wrong turn and ended up in the hell of miles of identical strip mall construction, surrounded by miles of identical housing construction, governed by housing committees that demand identical yard grooming, connected by miles of nonsensical connecting roads.

The local Army and Coast Guard will be marching on St. Patrick's day, and they have more individuality in uniform marching in perfect formation than suburban Jacksonville.
