Re: some fan fic is legally allowed to be sold through amazon now

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think OP used that word too. Your point?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The shelves of tie-in novels in my local bookstores and libraries would beg to differ.

Yeah, the quality decreased after episode five (a few filler episodes and a lackluster villain will do that), but it was still a fun ride overall and I liked the note it ended on.

Learn to read? Where does OP say "licensing"?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Public domain and history is not the same as selling Twilight fics, kiddo. ... Not that anyone would pay for that, but you never know!

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly.

If people can't understand one simple sentence, how do they expect to profit from writing, anyway?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Is Jane Austen's livelihood threatened by people posting horror AUs and "stuff like that"? Is that remotely the same as selling fic based on a living writer's current work?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Tie-in novels are produced by people who own the rights to the property, and therefor have the right to profit from it. Unless it's a property licensed through Kindle Worlds or something like that, you simply don't have the right to profit from other people's creative work.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Public domain or licensing or illegal books?

Far away from me, I hope.

Yeah my only prob is that I don't sell fan art and it's getting increasingly hard to get legit serial numbers to unlock the trials (I did have a pirated copy of Painter back in the art school days)

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Also can't pirate art supplies or hardware xP

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
No, silly. Those you steal.

Same but I thought I should just pick one thing.

Seriously though, let's sing something together.

I like those things too.

Seriously though, you have every right to love your voice. It's fucking majestic and I'm jealous.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh, now I see the error of my ways. Would you say that shoplifting or home invasion is the better way to go? xP

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly I heard that story and it doesn't really match up with an interview I actually saw with her where she was like "yeah, I'm basically playing a stereotype in this movie. BUT, I GET TO MAKE OUT WITH CHRISTIAN BALE!!!!"

Idk. Ya know?

Also the whole "hanging out with people as opposed to dating" bit.

"wimmin" always makes me think of Popeye.

Re: Working WTFs

I worked in a bookstore and a customer came in demanding to know why the bank across the street was closed.

I wouldn't be so sure of it.
It's been forever I haven't been able to complete a fic, and yet not so long ago I managed to sit at the table often and long enough to write a novel-length book, and that was mostly because this time I intended to try and get it published.

Which might have made a little money (I wasn't counting on much) and get an actual IRL result, as opposed to putting a text online where you'll never know if anyone read it or not, apart from a few likes and comments once in a year (when I wrote fics, it was for small fandoms).

It wasn't fiction and I haven't found a publisher, but I did complete the book as I wanted it to be, in a publisheable form. That's a lot more than I ever did when I was writing fic.

There were other reasons involved in writing the book (I thought I had something to say about a topic I knew well that wasn't covered much in my country). But I would like if I said that "extra bucks from doing something I enjoy, as opposed to wasting the same time writing meta in dead fandoms" didn't play in.

Yeah, this. I don't follow Hunger Games closely and even I heard drama.
