...what's wrong with writing your personal fantasies...?

Is writing other people's fantasies somehow better or more artistic?

Hell, if your level of interest bleeds through into your fic, maybe it would be hotter?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I am get self-conscious when I write about my own kinks. Especially the ones that I am nervous about having.

Are there people who don't write their personal fantasies?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-04 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, usually they're paid money to do it though. Not for their hobby.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Quite a few of the authors I chat with write a mix of their own fantasies and "wouldn't this be interesting" type of porny fic. And sometimes people just write whatever someone prompts.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2014-03-05 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, but I feel like if I can't really "get" a kink I try not to write it.

Although sometimes I do try to write it just as a challenge to myself and to attempt to understand it, but I feel like that probably doesn't come off as very arousing.

I can safely say that I've never fantasized about any of what I wrote in Worms. I just had a horrible, horrible nightmare and wanted it out of my head, and I realized it would work as erotic horror. (Though most of the time, I'm way more likely to write stuff that at least doesn't terrify me.)

Why would that be creepy? Don't a lot of people write what turns them on?

i pretty much always assume that's what a smut writer is doing...? so i wouldn't worry OP. write what you want.

I sincerely hope that one day you do write your personal fantasies and post them, I cannot get enough f/f.

I think fic is a lot better when the writer is enjoying what they're writing. I see this in my own work, anyway.

I'm here for the Maka-Maka love. Also, you should totally write what you like! How would people even know you get off to it unless you tell them, anyway? :P

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
EVERY fictional book is about the author's personal fantasies. Yeah.

I must be weird, because when I write sex it's almost clinical, I do not really get turned on by my own writing.

To be honest this type of paranoia is why I don't write porn at all. I get super weirded out thinking people will know all my kinks or fantasies or whatever. Nothing wrong with writing fantasies, but that's just a little too much for me personally to handle. I got enough anxieties about my writing, I don't need to add that on top.

I think people are too afraid of being a creep. Creep has become this deathblow label that marks you as scum, and it's just too liberally applied.

OMG YES. Maka Maka is best and hottest yuri of all time.

You lost me in your 2nd line but the first line I kind of agree with - f/f is too personal for me and I don't like sharing it - while m/m and f/m are more distant emotionally so I don't mind drawing/writing/reblog going it. I guess cause I don't care as much? While f/f I'm sensitive as fuck over.

But I'm pretty sure that most smut!fics are the writer's fantasies? At least that's how it is for me, most of the smut I write starts out as wank material.

Isn't writing our personal fantasies part of the whole gig?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Although it's often uncomfortable to write too close to one's own fantasies, or deep emotions, or other personal stuff, the end result is generally worth it. Nobody will pick up on the stuff that's absolutely specifically you unless you repeat a specific thing in multiple fics. I was just rereading a group of fics I wrote between 8 and 5 years ago, and I picked up on something from my personal life that snuck into a dozen of them -- and not a single person caught it back then, even my betas. As a rule, people are usually too caught up in their own crap to hyperanalyze anyone else's. (Fictional characters and famous people aside, obviously.)

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
I get this, OP. I'm a queer woman who writes mostly m/m stuff because I feel weirdly self-conscious about having women involved, feeling more into women than men. I've been accused of "fetishizing" same-sex interactions though, which is kind of hilarious because I deliberately write what seems least hot to me.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
If they're reading it, they're not going to get creeped out that someone wrote it.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Ladybro I LEGIT don't even give a fuck if you are turned on while writing this
