godzilla was a metaphor for the japanese trauma of Nagasaki and Hiroshima and an nuclear accident

and this movie apparently changes the origin story into the americans only using the atomic bomb to fight godzilla

yeah, but sure, it's only whitewashing that's the problem here

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
So, according to you they must stick to the original metaphor. Why?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I think the argument is that they shouldn't make the dropping of the atomic bombs into some heroic thing?

They could changed it into anything else, really but this is true, then I can definitely see how people would be upset.

It is not true, watch the trailer instead of assuming all sources of info are correct.

You're saying the origin story is that Godzilla resulted from an atomic bomb dropped to fight Godzilla?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
they're using a different origin story- not that Godzilla will be born out of nuclear power, but that the atomic bomb was used to fight.

that's what I heard- then I would 100% understand the claim of whitewashing and shitty appropriation

... I think whitewashing is the least of the movie's problems if that's true.

Original Godzilla: "This is the ancient sea monster Gojira, or Godzilla, reawakened from the sleep of millennia by radioactivity from the nuclear blast."

What I can find about the remake (since it isn't out, but I guess you have an informant about the plot) [Interview with Director]:
And this is a "Godzilla" origin story?
Yeah, it's an origin story. I mean, I think those moments in films where everyone learns about these monsters, you know, it's very difficult moments to show on camera. And especially when you have multiple characters. So, I think we've been very careful. I hope we have in the way that we portrayed that. And you know, you can't help but reference events like September 11th and the tsunami.

So it's set in Tokyo?
Not necessarily. it's a global story.

So Godzilla gets around?
Yeah, exactly. It's global. It's not one specific spot. You know, we tried to pick an epic journey for the film.

well, maybe it'll be treated with respect... that's what I hope, if he wants to reference September 11th And the tsunami.

I hope they'll keep a theme of atomic danger, maybe with Godzilla as avenger of nature vs. artificial nuclear monsters, because the arrogance of science hopefully stays a part of the story.
It would piss me off if they would just use the tsunami and not Fukushima if that's such an obvious way to stay true to a core element and say something meaningful, is what I'm saying.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
But aren't the Tsunami and Fukushima are still a bit too close, timeline wise, to be the background for a stupid killer lizard action movie? I actually think it would be pretty fucking disrespectful. But to each their own.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to figure out how "you can't help but reference" major world tragedies in a Godzilla movie.

I think it's because a giant creature destroying buildings and making huge waves would definitely be reminiscent of several disasters.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, good point.

Excuse me.

Did you read the script? Is the script pro-nuclear bomb? Is dropping nuclear bombs considered an uncomplicated act?

Because somehow I doubt that's what's going to happen.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
you're welcome

TO DIE

(Anonymous) 2014-03-05 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
No fucking way. Tell me that's not true? I will not watch this movie if that's what they're trying to pass off.
insanenoodlyguy: (Default)

It's not true

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2014-03-05 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Anon is a moron. See post below. Also so are you for not seeing that this is false RIGHT ON FUCKING TRAILER

insanenoodlyguy: (Default)

First off, you are wrong

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2014-03-05 04:28 am (UTC)(link)

Secondly, you're a fucking moron.

Thirdly, you'd know this if instead of picking up your information from some little sjw source on tumblr, you WATCHED THE FUCKING TRAILER AND KNEW WHAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT

http://youtu.be/vIu85WQTPRc

I will also accept that you don't know your history and what was going on in 1950's and are thus still stupid, albeit in a different way.
