I don't think the OP is "only" interested in the money, but... at least you know that if someone buys your fic, it's because they actively enjoy your writing enough to part with some dosh. That's a high tribute in this society.

Fandom culture is pretty crap at voicing appreciation of fan writers these days. Even a drive-by anonymous kudos is considered something they should be grateful for.

So yeah, I totally get it.
