Yeah, I'm curious about the hairpin thing, and the "seducing any woman" thing that the OP mentioned, and I'm probably not going to ever play it...

OP, would it be alright to ask you for spoilers on these two points as well? I'm not really in a place right now to start any video games, so I doubt I'll ever play it, but I am curious...

(Anonymous) 2014-03-06 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Not OP, but MAJOR SIDEQUEST SPOILERS:

The hairpin thing consisted of one of the villains killing sacred fairies near a previously devout village that had since become materialistic (thanks to their help) and using their wings to make hairpins and drive whoever wore them insane, as well as bring out the worst qualities because they were affected by chemicals emitted from the wings.

The seduction was a red mage who used pheromones to lure women in and charm them to do whatever he wanted before he killed them. After they were dead he used their bodies to make more pheromones.

/END SPOILERS

I may have missed some stuff, but that's the gist of it.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-06 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I FORGOT: the villain with the hairpins was charging so much money that girls from the village (all female) were starving themselves to save enough. I think I may have mixed up the hairpins with a related quest after re-reading this, but they were all interconnected to bring that village down due to its religious foundation, basically.

Huh, interesting. Creepy and weird, but interesting. (And honestly not what I was expecting; for some reason I was thinking of mind-controlling hairpins. >_>;)

Thanks!

You're welcome! And haha, I thought of your theory when I was first playing, too. I'm actually fighting a boss as I'm checking this thread, which is probably why my memory isn't as good as it could be, whoops.

No worries, I got what you meant. :)

Good luck with your boss-fighting!

I'm going to assume you mean a video game boss and not an irl boss, yes?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-06 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
I would be deeply concerned if a IRL boss were as hard as this game boss.

Thank you! It killed me a few minutes later, but I'm going to try leveling before I give up entirely.

Good to know

Good luck. ♥

What boss are you on?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-06 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's actually the stupid wind dragon. I'm trying to finish the last two asterisks before I go through the last three cycles.

For the wind dragon second time round, I made sure each character had either abate fire or ice or an accessory that did the same. It was a lot harder second time round after it being a pushover the first. I took a few goes to work out the job combos I needed.

Dragon killer is a level 9 hunter skill. More job info here:

Thanks for the link, but I've already been working with FAQs to save time. It's mostly a level issue at this point, haha.

Sure, no probs.

I like to level up ridiculously just for fun so I never have that issue. If you have other commitments that's less appealling.

BD's system makes it fun enough that I definitely don't mind as much as I might with other games, but it'll definitely be nice to give it a longer run when I'm off for the summer!

It was the sheer fun of grinding that made me buy the game. I'd levelled up the demo once and was even thinking of doing it again from the start.

Just checking how long I've played BD already - 109 hours. And I'm only at the start of the second loop. I'm taking a break from it now to be honest, so I don't burn out. Only Fire Emblem: Awakening beats it on my 3DS at 292 hours played so far and still counting (getting all the supports conversations is still fun.)

(Anonymous) 2014-03-06 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I've got around 65, but I definitely feel you on the burnout. I was thinking of switching to another JRPG, but I think I can make it through to the end. You mentioning FE:A just reminds me how much I still needed to do in that even after I beat it, though. Another good friend sunk in as much as you, and I got to 100 before I made myself beat it. It was just too fun getting every support conversation! I don't think I finished, either.

I've been alternating rpgs with visual novel/puzzle games like Layton/Ace Attorney. It's a nice change of pace.

There's so much content in FE:A it's unreal. Not just the game, which I plan to play through again with different pairings and on a harder level than the easy-peasy beginners one I have now. But all the supports, and the DLC (I love the scramble DLCs for extra comedy convos) and the dozens of past characters you can battle.

(At 292 hours, I still haven't beat the game once totally. That's appalling, isn't it?)

I don't want it to end but now I'm ridiculously overlevelled from when I went for all the kids' support convos. I think it might be better to leave that save slot as it is and begin again on normal hardness level/classic insta-death for the full story effect.

I have Ghost Trick on my phone (I don't like buying things via iOS normally, but it was only a buck for the whole game) and Trials and Tribulations to finish on the DS, so I think I'll switch to those if I get tired after all. But your file sounds truly intense, and I wish you luck in beating the game! I need to get back to the DLCs when I've gone through my current list of games for sure.

Oooh, thanks! I just got given an old iphone so I'll be able to buy Ghost Trick for it if they sell it in the UK. Thanks for the tip, I had no idea. I blagged the iphone mostly so I could play the original AA trilogy.

You have no idea about my crazy intensive FE:A playstyle. I started keeping a whole exercise book of notes about who should marry who and what skills to pass onto the kids and what skills I wanted. Excessive.

I was enabled slightly in my overkill by blue on tumblr, who has whole marriage ref grids based on what pretty hair colour she wants her super-sprogs to have. (Red always best, in my opinion. My Gerome is red.)

http://acetactician.tumblr.com/

My first playthrough, I married Frederick the super tank. First love, awww. But not such a good long term option as his growth rates get very low.

This time, I've been holding off until I had all the kids. But now I still can't decide between Laurent, Owain or Gerome (or Brady! sudden love for Brady this playthrough after I levelled Lissa up properly and all Brady's support convos about him being weak now make zero sense.)

(Anonymous) 2014-03-06 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
No problem! It may not be that cheap any longer since I got it during a specific sale, but hopefully it would beat the current prices. It was inflated up in value every time I had extra money, but it could just be US-based.

All of your pairings are adorable! And yes, I find red to be the best, too. I played a boy Robin the first time around so I could have a girl version for Hard mode, so I married Panne and I was happy with my choices. It'll be a hard choice when it comes time to replay, though... I really like a lot of the kids.

Fire Emblem: Awakening spoilers

[personal profile] inevitableentresol 2014-03-06 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
My first two playthroughs were with girl Avatars, since I reckoned as there are more men than women in the early stages of the game, so I had a better choice to marry early and get the Avatar some meaty pairup S-support bonuses.

Third time, I started a normal-difficulty game with a boy Avatar. Now I can pair up with Chrom a lot more in battle and not get accidentally married, whoops. I was always avoiding him as I like to pair him with Sumia purely because she can fly early on and carry him out of trouble.

Though apparently I need to marry Chrom during some playthrough for all the chapters to make complete sense? I dunno, I just don't feel anything for Chrom. Sorry mate, I'm sure you're a lovely guy. How about I marry your kid from the future instead? Isn't that better? Ha ha.

I find it a bit weird marrying Nowi and Panne to humans. I keep not wanting to think how the practicalities work. Nowi of course is a tank with massive growth, so I marry her off while kind of pretending I'm not because of her creepy character design. This time I did Lon'qu/Nowi. Why did I do it? No!!!!!! The Nah conversations are so unsettling with him as the dad. Or with any of her dads, I suppose.

My first playthrough, I married Panne/Ricken, since I wanted neither of them to do anything saucy with an actual adult human. A chaste, solely battle-based marriage of convenience. Then they had a kid! Arrgh! Although Yarne is great.

Anyway, I keep losing Vaike now. Stupid Vaike. Easily the hardest to keep alive/level up at the start.
