[The Bletchley Circle]

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's a great show, but there have been too few episodes to build a TV fandom around. Two episodes this last series? It was just getting started.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
But what about Sherlock? That managed a massive fandom with barely any material.

There were four episodes in both series. I think you missed two.

I still have to watch this. My girlfriend recommended it a while back and it sounds like something I would like but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I've never even heard of it. When it is on? What channel? Netflix?
fauxkaren: (Default)

[personal profile] fauxkaren 2014-03-07 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
First series is on Netflix.

Second series is yet to air in the US, I think. And it'd air on PBS when it does air.

I love it! But I agree with the first comment - too few episodes to build a fandom, at least a US fandom (Sherlock is the exception, not the rule)

I love it!

I am sad that Susan was written out of the last two episodes of series 2.

Has a third series been commissioned? Does anyone know?

I was really unimpressed with it, tbh. I think I had too high expectations AND serial killer fatigue, which was not a good combination.

Maybe it doesn't have enough male characters?

ginainthekingsroad: Oscar & Lucinda at the porthole- "I have gambled for pleasure..." (Oscar & Lucinda- porthole)

I liked it but didn't love it. I did really enjoy the overall concept, because the "re-form the old team" trope is really lacking scenarios with primarily female casts, but the execution was just another serial killer chase story. The actors were all good, and the production design is just lovely for their small budget; but the writing and direction were fairly unimpressive. Maybe S2 is better? It hasn't aired over here yet.

Ooooh, is that Rachel Stirling? I will watch anything with her in it.

is it just me or does the first look like a younger Emily, the third like Rory and the fourth like Lorelai (from Gilmore girls)?

But it doesn't have people in fabulous gowns swanning around complaining about how rich they are.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I've heard next to nothing about it, but it caught my eye on Netflix and it's on my list of things to watch. I've just not got around to it yet.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I saw the second half if one episode that I happened to catch entirely by accident. There's really been very little promotion of this on PBS. That's not super unusual - it's easy for some things on PBS to slip by if you aren't paying close attention (I missed nearly all of te second season of Call the Midwife because I simply had no idea it was airing). Downton Abbey has gotten an unusually large amount of advertising as the years have gone on and they repeat the previous season before the next one premires so peope can catch up if they haven't been watching consistently or if they forgot what had been going on.

I really liked the first series and told everyone to watch it, but series 2 didn't sound promising, so I haven't gotten around to it yet.

That show is great. I was really impressed with the "circle".

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
I love this show and I'm an American.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
I've watched what was on Netflix but that was only like 2 episodes. If there are more, I'd love to see them.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
For me, it's number of episodes. I got into Downton Abbey because it gave me enough material to really be interested in the characters/plot. Series that only have a couple of episodes, I wait until there's more.

<--spoiled by U.S. seasons of 20-some-odd episodes.. or at LEAST 13, if a series isn't cancelled early.
