I guess Case has the IP address of the secret poster, so if he really wanted to look up their identifying information he probably could... but I trust him more than that?

IP addresses don't work that way. Assuming OP posted from home, all Case would be able to find would be which access provider they were using and where the server that assigned their address is located. (Which might not be where they actually live.)
