This is closely related to the idea that being in a volatile, dysfunctional, or otherwise unhealthy relationship is better than being single.
"X is the best that Y will ever be able to get, so he/she should just suck it up, because ANYTHING is better than being single." Um, no, no, and no.
"X is a flawed person who has made mistakes or has some less-than-stellar personal attributes, therefore he/she should be grovelingly grateful that ANYONE would deign to be with them." Ugh.
