try not to worry about it op. a crack ship is still a ship, and anyway, it seems like this being a crack ship is kind of a matter of interpretation -- which a lot of ships are, if you think about it. also, keep in mind that evern if you shipped something kess cracky, there might still be someone out there who would say you didn't care about characterization just because they didn't like the same ship.

Why is it a crack ship? I've seen Vetinari/Vimes out there - is that considered a crack ship as well?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I think Vetinari/Vimes is one of the bigger ships in fandom, maybe? I don't know. There doesn't seem to be a lot of fic/art, at least that I was ever able to find.

Because Drumknott isn't supposed to have much of a personality maybe? Even Turtle Recall says he is a man without distinctive personality.

Lack of personality usually doesn't stop shipping - sometimes it's the opposite because the writer can fill in the blanks with headcanon. Vetinari/Drumknott doesn't seem like a crack ship, it's not like shipping Vetinari/Nanny Ogg.

I always thought crack ships were like...ships based on two characters that never interacted in canon. As in, oh, I don't know, Granny Weatherwax/Vimes, or something.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
You shouldn't feel guilty for shipping something, OP. If people judge you for shipping what look like 2 consenting adults, it's totally stupid of them.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I thought Drumknott/Vetinari was a perfectly normal and relatively plausible pairing? Perhaps only second to Vetinari/Ankh-Morpork

Ahem, I think you mean Vetenari/Vimes. Ankh-Morpork can join in on an OT3 though.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure Vetinari/Vimes/Ank-Morpork is canonical

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
But...Vimes and Sybil! They are the cutest! I couldn't break them up!

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
You give me heartburn.

I think you once said you had difficulty seeing any other Vetinari ships because you couldn't get past Vetinari/Vimes, but I myself can't see the ship because I can't get past Sam and Sybil's story. Guards! Guards! was so great, I can't bear the thought of them not being together ;~;

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't seem so crack-y to me...master + servant is rather obvious, no?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
For some reason, I don't think I'd consider any Discworld pairing a crack ship. It's one of those fandoms where I could buy anything.

I kind of feel that way too. I'm surprised by how common a mindset that is actually.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Why would anyone call it a crack ship, unless they'd consider shipping Vetinari with anyone cracky? Because as far as Vetinari ships go, Vetinari/Drumknott is probably the most ... reasonable one.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
People who would call that a crack ship have no imagination whatsoever.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't seem like a crack ship at all to me. I'm baffled that people would think it was. They interact in canon and everything!

[personal profile] skippydelicious 2014-03-08 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
It is way more plausible than Vimes/Vetinari and less cracky too, and that is one of the fandom headline ships. Discworld fans are screwed up, that is the only conclusion I can draw.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
High-five for shipping something seriously that other people call crack ships! They're not crack ships to me.
tabaqui: (Default)

[personal profile] tabaqui 2014-03-08 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't consider it 'crack', myself. It's logically a good ship.

[personal profile] chlorhexidine 2014-03-08 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
I-- What?

That's not a crack ship. With Drumknott's dedication and unique understanding of the way Vetinari thinks, it's easily one of the more plausible Vetinari ships out there. Crack is supposed to be characters who never met, or are at least never seen together by the audience, not... two people who spend more time around each other than they do anybody else in the entire character roster.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
I hate how people just throw the word 'crack ship' around, usually haters trying to make their nOTP seem less credible or whatever.

In my opinion a crack ship is two characters who have never met or interacted at all. Even if there is no romance or shippy stuff, as long as the characters know each other/have interacted/had a moment then I don't consider something a crack pairing.

Shipping is meant to be for fun, not everyone who ships stuff thinking it will be canon or because their relationship is romantic in canon... it's just that you like the characters and the dynamics between them and want to focus on that through fandom.

Hell, if people think a crack ship means something that is not canon than most pairings are crack. The percentage of people who ship something that is canon in fandom is very low. Once something becomes canon it kinda loses it's charm anyways (in most cases at least)

It's a crack ship? Oh.

Not in the fandom (should be though) but I figured it was one of the main pairs.
