Also this secret is reminding me of the time I sat in church and came up with an elaborate Pokemon metaphor where Jesus is a trainer trying to collect everyone and evolve them into stronger people.

That's deep~! You used your church time wisely.

that sounds weirdly like gnosticism.

Really? How so? I don't know as much about gnosticism as I'd like.

well...without getting too deeply into it, in gnosticism, the idea is that god is the creation of even higher beings and wound up separated from them, in a realm of his own. he created us out of loneliness, and he also tries to keep us here out of loneliness. jesus was a being sent to help us find the spark of the universe within us, so that we can grow and become higher beings and escape this realm.

so yeah, that probably sounds like, 'whoa.' but the idea of jesus collecting us all and helping us evolve reminded me really strongly of the concept of him helping us leave this realm.

Thanks, that's really interesting. And I may want to look into that more because it kind of reminds me of a religion I made up for a fantasy I wrote and there was part of it that I was never quite happy with that this could explain.

Man, and I would just sit in church imagining what would happen if Gannondorf busted through the wall and I had to do something to save everyone.

The most interesting geeky thing I ever imagined in church was a time around Christmas when I was re-watching Neon Genesis Evangelion at home and kept trying not to giggle whenever we sang songs during service featuring angels.

I never told anyone at my church about my anime-hobby. I know they wouldn't have approved. I wouldn't have wanted to even start to *try* to explain NGE to them, so I just had to "don't laugh, don't laugh, just sing, don't laugh."
