It's not really a meme, it's about as canon as you can get with this fandom.

Why was Helix chosen as Pokemon God?

I thought it was because they were both discovered in a cave.

But then I remembered there's that whole Pokemon Bible thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Because they kept on selecting it in battles or something.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Have you seen/heard of Twitch Plays Pokemon?

The players kept "consulting" its fossil by accidentally opening the item menu.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
The Helix fossil is a key item, and can't be thrown away. Since during random presses lots and lots of stuff gets thrown away, often enough only the Helix fossil remained. So people would select it, and you'd get a 'you can't use that here!' from Oak, and it got selected over and over and over again until people just joked that Red was consulting the Helix fossil over every move, until it moved to god status.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
There were a decent number of people (thankfully?), so he didn't hear me. The lady next to me gave an awkward laugh though, like an automatic response to a joke and then a "wait, what?" when she realized she didn't get it.

Also this secret is reminding me of the time I sat in church and came up with an elaborate Pokemon metaphor where Jesus is a trainer trying to collect everyone and evolve them into stronger people.

That's deep~! You used your church time wisely.

[personal profile] escriboconundedo 2014-03-08 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
that sounds weirdly like gnosticism.

Man, and I would just sit in church imagining what would happen if Gannondorf busted through the wall and I had to do something to save everyone.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-09 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
The most interesting geeky thing I ever imagined in church was a time around Christmas when I was re-watching Neon Genesis Evangelion at home and kept trying not to giggle whenever we sang songs during service featuring angels.

I never told anyone at my church about my anime-hobby. I know they wouldn't have approved. I wouldn't have wanted to even start to *try* to explain NGE to them, so I just had to "don't laugh, don't laugh, just sing, don't laugh."

I still do not get the appeal of Twitch Plays Pokemon.

But, Helix fossils are awesome, so.
